April 27, 2016, 3:54 pm I received two voicemail messages from this number and another call driving home from work. I knew it was a joke and called back giving a wrong name and address. Then he asked for my tax ID number and I was like "Do you mean social security number because that is what we call it in this country *expletive*" and then I hung up. It should not be that difficult to get the thieves on the phone and then do a trace to pinpoint the exact location, even when the location is in another country. I called my tax prepares office and was advised that the IRS will never contact you via phone, that it will always be via mail. Not trying to say all people from India sound the same, but his accent sounded like the same dialect as the accent of the calls I got a year or so ago from some man claiming to be from Microsoft and needing to remote access my computer. May 3, 2016, 5:07 pm I have started receiving this call today as well. First thing I want to say as a CPA is that the IRS will never call you as first step in any action they take against you. They will always mail you a letter (or actually several) and if you failed to respond they would file legal action and have papers physically served on you through the court system.
