They were told that if they hung up without paying $2400 that they supposedly owed, then the police would be there in 15 minutes to arrest my dad. April 27, 2016, 2:10 pm Got a call from 213.141.5163 with a recorded message saying it was IRS regarding a lawsuit and to call 347.418.0574. Was curious and called back. Got an agent that sounded like was in a call center with Indian accent. They knew our name and physical address... said we owed back taxes after an audit for '08-'13 of $2400. Also said we were served back in Sept '15 but no one was home. Needed to settle and pay now or be sued in Federal court and agent would at our door same day to seize all our property! I know that if you are in trouble with the IRS that that send you an addressed letter with your name on it. I wish someone would do something about these calls. The first time my then 12 year old son heard the recording on answering machine? It freaked him out. I had to calm him down and say that it was a spammer from somewhere in India. Said if I didn't settle on the phone, they would contact federal court and that an officer would be here in 45 minutes to arrest me. I asked why I hadn't received any letters from IRS - he said an officer had left a door hanger instructing me to call and I had failed to respond. That was so funny I knew it was a scam. The first time I had actually answered the phone so only got to hear the message. The calling number was obviously fake. It was "12 13 14 15 16 3" which would have the exchange beginning with a "1". April 28, 2016, 3:47 pm I called back to play along. When I ask "what statute are you referring to" they hang up. I call back to say oh, we got disconnected. Go through a whole concerned routine. They then ask me to hold for a "supervisor" but he never comes on the line. If I ask too many questions, they get nervous and hang up.
