The caller said that they were from the "National Student Debt relief Center" and that they had student debt reductions plans ready for me that had been approved by congress. I found this hard to believe. I think that this is a scam. I don't believe any loan or debt consolidation loan offers over the phone and I think that's exactly what this caller is offering.

Answered the call. It's a robocall - supposedly some effort to collect on a student loan. Called back and was promptly disconnected. I don't have any student loans. Would not recommend giving this group any personnel info, certainly not a SS#.

Sales caller or scammer. I can't be sure. They wan to make offers to students with student loans to help you reduce your student loan debt. I can only assume that this is some kind of student loan consolidation loan where they merge other debts you have into one big debt with lower interest rates to make payments smaller. Or it's a scam which is going to rip you off or phish your data. No way to know for sure unless someone on here deals with them.

If you reviewed a call from this number and picked up or called back, you are likely to recieve calls from other numbers in the future. Calling back and pressing anything or staying on the line to tell them to quit calling you lets them know here's an actual person on the other end and will try other ways to scam you.

Someone called my cell from 540-628-8915 but I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. I'm really not sure how they got my number if it's part of the same scam others are being called about.

Mess with Them
November 5, 2015, 1:48 pm

I like to have the last laugh so I mess with them. I pretend I'm very interested, I give them all fake information and just as they think they'll seal the deal, I talk in a childlike manner and say something crazy like "Would you like to come to my birthday party this weekend? I'm going to be 12 years old!" This posses them off cause they wasted valuable time on a prank...booya...and my number gets removed from their list as an undesirable.

Have fun with it...don't let them get the upper hand by aggravating you...mess with them and let them know you do this to all unsolicited calls because you ENJOY messing with them. Don't ever let them know they bothered or upset you. They don't care and your number gets passed around...UNLESS you're marked as an undesirable prospect ;-)

Received a call but didn't answer. They didn't leave a voicemail. My son is a college student, but has no student debt. He used my number for a couple of scholarship websites, so I'm wondering if that's how they got the number.

Received a call on a cell phone with limited access. I didn't answer and there was no message. Scary if it is from a scam agent, seeing the previous messages here. I do have student loans. I have caller ID on both my cell phone and land line and never answer a caller whose number I don't recognize and whose identification isn't provided.

received this call on Nov. 12, 2015 at 12:10 pm claiming to be student debt relief. I know from past experience that the people from federal student loans absolutely do not make offers over the phone; they send, through the mail, once a year options if you need debt relief. I really feel that someone from the agency should see this long running scam prosecuted; the scammers have been using this exact phone number for a while so it should be easy to do.

I paid off my student loan 2 years ago, that was followed by conformation letters(loan info, amount, loan yr, paid yr)from the state as well as Sallie Mae(verification that it was me, because they owed me $) All of this stuff is done through the mail, not over the phone like this, be careful. The way these people got my number was from my public resume, which just went up 4 days ago!!!

Robo call about student load refinancing. My number is on the FTC do not call list. Said they had offers to help reduce debt. Seems like a shady offer. No way to verify these people. Finance offers on phone are very high risk these days. Be careful.

They called saying they work with the USDEPT of Student Loans and they are calling me back after my recent inquiry. I did make an inquiry, but not with these guys. He asked for my SS#, Home #, date of birth. Then says he is setting up an acct for me and needs my mother's maiden name and my birthplace. Typical scammer questions. I asked for his website or anything to validate his business. he immediately said he would send me an email about the "offer" and hung up right after. Never received an email. Scammer for sure!!

Called me, then hung up as soon as I said hello. Been getting nonstop calls from companies that want to lower or waive my student loans or just simply hang up. No matter how many I block or request to never call back, I keep on getting calls.
