Same CID of "Illinois Police" I've seen posted at other sites from this number. Definitely a scam I've heard far too many times before. April 19, 2016, 6:59 pm I just received a call that was apparently spoofing 618-855-0185 with the Caller ID claiming Illinois State Police. Note that I am in the 309 area code. The caller attempted to send me materials to state that I would pledge money for police officers killed in the line of duty. Note that at no time did the caller state the name of an organization that I could run a charity check on. April 26, 2016, 2:05 pm When I got this call I was really terrified; I have a minor case & I haven't hired an attorney yet, so I have no court date. I literally thought the police knew I ignored their call and were on their way at that moment, going to come to my door and arrest me with a warrant for not having court in awhile or twisting it into I was avoiding court or something; Then I searched the number & I'm really relieved to find out it's just some stupid scanner who picked my number at random. May 16, 2016, 11:08 am On Saturday, 05/14/2016, I received a call that my phone caller ID as Illinois Police coming from 618-855-0185. I am a retired Police Detective and have been aware that numerous persons have been getting calls from the "Illinois Police" attempting to get donations. The person identified himself as a "Keith Dougherty"(sp). I let him go through his spiel and they would send me an envelope and would I enclose a donation $5/$10/etc. and mail it to them. As I asked him where this would be going to, he hung up. The Illinois Attorney General, Lisa Madigan has/is supposed to be investigating this scam as it has been going on for a long time. When I sit by the phone, I shut off the answering machine and if a suspect call tries to connect, I let it ring until they hang up. That way my answering machine doesn't get filled up with scam calls like this one.
