If you check your bank statement online you will likely see $1.00 pending charges at the time they call. The information you provide when you call them back is what they need to confirm that the credit or debit card information they have is valid and useable. It all comes off as very "official." They will tell you the charges are fraudulent, will be reversed, and your card will be cancelled and reissued. After the phone call I signed in online to my BB&T checking account and clicked on checking account details and then manage debit cards. BB&T did instantly block my card because the card status is "block". I just don't understand how and why someone got access to my card. November 30, 2015, 7:20 pm I'm still VERY suspicious -- even after waiting on hold for half hour, and someone came on saying they were with BB&T fraud dept. the recordings while I was waiting were so mindless, do generic, so slick.... but didn't say anything about BB&T. December 8, 2015, 11:31 am 877-557-0506 is a complete SCAM. I got a call telling me about 7 transactions from about 3 different states (one state being where we live). It's just enough info to make you question the amounts they gave me. However, I wrote them down as the pre-recorded message listed them. So when a 'live' person answered from the DEFRAUD DEPT I told her the amounts were given to me so fast I would have to check my balance to verify their amounts, and call her back. Naturally I did NOT CALL HER BACK as I got on line and my account was fine and nothing listed as was stated! So I got on line and checked the number she gave me to call back and empathized to call 877-557-0506 so I'd get the DEFRAUD DEPT direct. Don't fall for this...this is NOTHING to do with BB&T or any other bank!! IF a legitimate call comes from your bank, it will be a call that you will KNOW is from them. You won't hear other people in the background (fraudulent callers) like you hear from this 877-557-0506. Anyone who commented on here who says it IS BB&T, is probably connected with this Scam. Stay safe, be aware and stay alert! Scamming is popular this time of year....and they have nothing better to do but steal from you. I was skeptical at first too, however, I've made about 30 online purchases in the past two days so it dawned on me, "I bet that's BB&T fraud," since I do bank with them. I had to press zero a million times but finally got through the automated system without putting any of my info in. When someone does answer, they do verify your identity like she asked me for the day of my birth after she listed the month. She also, after verification of my account, read off three of my recent transactions by the company and the amount. This is really the Fraud Prevention team. July 25, 2016, 4:08 pm This is LEGIT, whoever is saying it's a scam is full of it!! I just looked up the number because the message DID "sound sketchy". But I looked at my bb&t account and sure enough someone in ORLANDO (go freaking figure) used my card for a gas purchase at a 7-11. If you get a call from here, call the number on your debit card and go directly to the fraud dept. and make sure you CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT. Friggin loser thieves.
