May 25, 2016, 6:16 pm I also got a call today from "the IRS." When I called back, he stated that there was an error on my 2013 tax forms and that I owed $2,400. He then and asked if it was intentional or not. I said absolutely not, but then he said nothing after that. I asked if he was there after that and just heard a bunch of background noise. I googled the phone number and came across this page, that seems to echo the same script they are telling ppl about the $2,400. May 26, 2016, 5:09 pm My story is exactly the same as RCL. Thought it was a scam but had to verify. A heavily accented individual claiming to be an officer of the IRS answered the phone. Question, isn't misrepresentation of a federal employee a federal offense? This is actually my first experience with this type of scam. Although venting with fellow scammies is rewarding, I sure would like to be able to get people like this in a much more official way. I asked for the "officers" number and his location. He shared that he was in Washington and that his badge number was IRM12975. I asked for his supervisor's name too and then was disconnected.
